Bay of Fundy, Puget Sound & Cook Inlet Tidal Transit Corridor Guide

Strategic route planning, deepwater quayside staging facilities, and maritime Ro-Ro barge transload operations across North America's premier marine hydrokinetic energy corridors.

CORRIDOR ALPHA

Bay of Fundy & Cobscook Bay

World's highest tidal range (up to 16.3 meters / 53 feet). Flow velocities reach 10–12 knots in the Minas Passage and Western Passage. Staging out of Eastport, ME and Saint John, NB.

• Staging Pier: Eastport Breakwater / Estes Head
• Max Current: 11.5 Knots
• Bathymetry Depth: 45–110 Meters
CORRIDOR BRAVO

Puget Sound & Admiralty Inlet

Major Pacific Northwest tidal gate connecting the Strait of Juan de Fuca with greater Puget Sound. High traffic shipping channels require USCG Vessel Traffic Service (VTS) coordination.

• Staging Pier: Port of Everett / Port Townsend
• Max Current: 7.8 Knots
• Bathymetry Depth: 35–80 Meters
CORRIDOR CHARLIE

Cook Inlet Forelands, Alaska

Sub-arctic tidal powerhouse with 9-meter diurnal swings, severe glacial silt scour, and seasonal sea-ice loading. Staging out of Port of Alaska (Anchorage) and Nikiski Deepwater Terminal.

• Staging Pier: Nikiski Rig Dock / Kenai
• Max Current: 8.5 Knots
• Environmental: Heavy Ice Class Requirements

DEEPWATER RO-RO CAPABLE

The Port of Eastport operates the easternmost deepwater commercial port in the United States, offering natural channel depths exceeding 64 feet MLW without dredging. This provides an optimal staging ground for 350-ton twin-rotor nacelles and 850-ton concrete gravity base structures.

Heavy-haul modules arriving via interstate routes (I-95 to Route 9 and Route 1) face narrow bridge clearances and strict Maine DOT axle limits. Exspeedite TMS coordinates dual-file transport trailers with pre-planned municipal escort protocols through Washington County to avoid bridge load-rating choke points.

Corridor Logistical Specs:
Quayside Ground Bearing:28 Metric Tons / m²
Tidal Elevation Range:6.1m (20ft) Mean Spring
Barge Ramp Gradient:≤ 4.5% at Mid-Tide Window
Pilotage Requirement:Coastwise Endorsement / State Pilot
Pacific Northwest Corridor

Admiralty Inlet & Deception Pass Corridor

HIGH-DENSITY MARITIME ZONE

Admiralty Inlet funnels up to 2.4 million cubic feet of seawater per second into Puget Sound. The deployment zone between Whidbey Island and Port Townsend requires rigorous maritime coordination with US Navy Submarine Base Bangor transit corridors and Puget Sound pilots.

Fabricated subsea gravity foundations are loaded onto heavy ballast barges at the Port of Everett or Port of Tacoma using SPMT roll-on techniques, then towed under escort through Possession Sound to wait for slack water windows off Point Wilson.

Corridor Logistical Specs:
VTS Sector:USCG Puget Sound VTS Sector Seattle
Tow Escort Tug Power:2x 5,000 HP ASD Escort Tugs
Max Wave Height Window:Hs < 1.25m for Quayside Ro-Ro
Underwater Acoustics:NMFS Marine Mammal Bubble Curtain
