Spaceport High-Bay Payload Crane Transload Guide
Standard operating engineering guide for transloading spaceflight satellites, telescope payloads, and fairing assemblies in spaceport cleanroom high-bays: overhead bridge crane tandem rigging, horizontal-to-vertical rotation, and micro-inch PAF mating.
01 Spacecraft Hoist & Cleanroom Rigging Variables
02 Cleanroom Weight-Handling Determination CERTIFIED FLIGHT LIFT
Crane hook load-cell calibrated within 30 days. Test weight proof-lift completed. Cleanroom certified rigging crew stationed with precision guide lines.
Single-Failure-Proof Cranes
NASA-STD-8719.9 mandates that cranes lifting flight-critical spacecraft must never drop a load in the event of any single component failure. High-bay cranes incorporate dual reeved wire-rope systems, dual mechanical holding brakes, and redundant load-path gearing.
Trunnion Rotation Dynamics
Satellites travel horizontally in shipping containers but must be rotated 90 degrees to vertical for launch vehicle integration. Using motorized trunnion rotation frames eliminates side-loading on crane hoist lines and prevents dynamic shifting of the spacecraft internal center of gravity.
Micro-Inching PAF Mating
Lowering the satellite onto the Payload Adapter Fitting (PAF) clamp band ring requires sub-millimeter control. Variable-frequency drives (VFD) provide micro-inching speeds below 0.1 mm/sec to prevent shock loading and galling of titanium guide pins.
