Wind Blade Swept-Path & Turning Radius Calculator
Model horizontal lane clearance envelopes, rear tip tail kick-out, inner off-tracking cut-in, and required dolly steering angles for 70-meter to 115-meter wind turbine blades through city junctions, highway ramps, and roundabouts.

Kinematic Principles: Rotor Blade Turning Mechanics
1. Off-Tracking with Steerable Trailing Dollies
Unlike rigid trailers where off-tracking increases quadratically with wheelbase length, active trailing steerable dollies pivot counter to the prime mover's turning circle. The trailing bogie wheels steer outward, pushing the blade tip along an optimized path. When properly steered, the inner off-tracking cut-in is reduced by up to 65% compared to fixed-axle trailers.
2. Rear Tail Kick-Out (Sweep Encroachment)
As the rear dolly steers to negotiate a curve, the significant blade overhang past the rear pivot acts as a lever arm, swinging outward in the opposite direction of the turn. This "tail kick" can encroach into opposing traffic lanes, sidewalks, traffic poles, and guardrails by 10 to 25 feet.
