Automated Dry Bulk Pneumatic Blower CFM & Aeration Discharge Guide
Eliminate plugged line cleanouts and silo over-pressurization. Calculate exact blower CFM, aeration pad fluidization pressures, and line velocity parameters across cement, lime, flour, and plastic resin.
01 Dense-Phase vs Dilute-Phase: Pneumatic Conveying Dynamics
Dry bulk highway tankers transport pulverized powders, granular abrasives, and pelletized polymers under pneumatic pressure. The core challenge of pneumatic unloading is balancing aeration tank pressure against discharge line velocity. If line velocity drops below the saltation velocity (the minimum gas speed needed to keep particles suspended), solids fall out of the airstream, resulting in severe line plugging that can halt terminal receiving operations for 6 to 12 hours.
Conversely, excessive line velocity causes product degradation, skinning (streamers) in plastic pellets, and abrasive pipe wear on plant silos. Exspeedite’s Dry Bulk Module calculates the optimal blower PTO RPM, target hopper fluidizing manifold pressure, and maximum allowable silo backpressure based on commodity bulk density and vertical head elevation. PTO run-hours auto-sync directly into customer accessorial billing upon line detachment.
Porous silicone or canvas aeration pads introduce micro-bubbles into the hopper bottom, transforming cohesive powders (flour, cement, fly ash) into a liquid-like fluidized state for laminar flow.
Maintains a strict 1.5 to 2.5 PSIG differential between tank pressure (top air) and product discharge line (bottom air), propelling product smoothly into the conveying stream without surging.
Monitors destination silo backpressure. If silo dust collector differential pressure exceeds 4.0 inches w.c., the system directs the driver to throttle blower discharge before baghouse rupture occurs.

03 Standard Operating Sequence: From Pressurization to Cleanout
Attach static ground wire, connect 4-inch food-grade or abrasion-resistant hose with safety lock clips, and verify destination silo bin number and high-level alarm.
Engage PTO blower. Open top air valve until vessel reaches 10.0 to 12.0 PSIG. Verify aeration hopper pad pressure before opening discharge line butterfly valves.
Throttle hopper product valves sequentially from rear to front. Keep line pressure 2 PSIG below tank pressure to maintain laminar, continuous dense-phase feed.
When tank pressure drops to 2 PSIG, open line air fully for 2 minutes to clear residual material from the vertical rise pipe, preventing line clogging for the next delivery.
