Vanadium-Modified Alloy Metallurgy & Saddle Contact Stress

Modern high-pressure hydrocracking reactors utilize 2.25Cr-1Mo-0.25V vanadium-modified alloy steel to resist high-temperature hydrogen attack (HTHA) and temper embrittlement under operating pressures exceeding 180 bar. However, the heavy wall thickness and high yield strength make local shell contact stresses critical during horizontal transportation:

Saddle Arc Angle (≥ 140°) & Elastomer Lining

Transport saddles must provide an embrace angle ≥ 140 degrees (preferably 150° to 160°) lined with 20mm high-durometer neoprene or lead damping sheets. Peak circumferential shell bending stress must not exceed 0.35 × yield strength (Sy) under dynamic transport G-forces.

Trunnion Lifting Ring & Tailing Lug Protection

Heavy forged trunnion rings used for main crane hook-up and bottom skirt tailing lugs must be braced with internal radial spiders or external transport saddles to prevent shell ovalization (≤ 0.25% diameter deviation).

Dual-Lane SPMT Kinematics & 3-Point Suspension Grouping

Due to the extreme gross weight (frequently exceeding 1,800 metric tonnes including transport bolsters), single-file trailers are structurally inadequate. Dual-lane modular transporters (two side-by-side trailer files separated by intermediate spacer beams) are configured:

Effective Track Width (B)
6.20 – 7.40 m
Dual-lane track ensures wide tipping baseline
Hydraulic Grouping
3-Point Iso-Static
Eliminates chassis torsional twisting over crown
Axle Line Loading
≤ 24.5 t / Axle
Pavement shear stress verified via CIRCLY/BISAR

Refinery Battery Limit Ingress & Tailing Crane Interface

Navigating active refinery process units presents severe spatial bottlenecks, low-hanging pipe racks, and heavy underground utility culverts:

  • • Underground Sewer & Pipe Trench Protection: Deep cooling water pipes and oily-water drainage channels are protected with heavy steel jump bridges or 12-inch timber crane mats to prevent ground punching failure.
  • • Crab & Carousel Steering Maneuvers: Electronic independent steering allows the 55-meter convoy to execute 90-degree lateral crab maneuvers between live alkylation and flare knockout drums.
  • • Tailing Frame Hook-Up: As the 2,500-ton main lattice boom crane lifts the reactor head, the SPMT rear trailer acts as the tailing carrier, advancing forward synchronously with crane boom luffing until vertical clearance is achieved.
