Offshore Quayside Subsea Crane Load-Out Audit
Pre-lift structural verification for transferring 450-ton subsea BOP stacks and Christmas trees from multi-axle perimeter trailers onto offshore construction vessels (OCVs) and deck barges.
Quayside Heavy Load-Out Audit Stages
Quayside Bulkhead & Sheet Pile Soil Bearing Audit
Prior to positioning crawler cranes within 25 feet of the sheet pile bulkhead line, geotechnical cone penetrometer testing (CPT) verifies the soil bearing capacity under crawler outriggers and tracks. Matting configurations using 12"x12" oak timber mats overlaid with 1.5" ASTM A36 steel spreader plates are audited to ensure localized ground bearing pressure never exceeds 3,250 psf.
Dual-Crane Tandem Hoisting & Load-Sharing Synchronization
Where a single crane cannot boom out across the vessel beam with a 450-ton suspended load, two heavy crawler cranes (e.g. 600-ton and 800-ton classes) operate in tandem. Under ASME B30.5 regulations, neither crane may be loaded beyond 75% of its net rated capacity at operating radius. Redundant digital load indicator links display differential hoist speed and cable tensions in both operator cabs simultaneously.
Engineered Spreader Bar Geometry & Dynamic Tilt Limits
A 600-ton certified modular spreader beam connects the twin crane main blocks to the 4-point BOP lifting trunnions. Wireless dual-axis digital inclinometers attached to the spreader beam trigger automatic audible warning tones if out-of-level tilt exceeds ±1.0°, and full hoist freeze if tilt reaches ±1.5°, preventing dangerous cross-loading of grommet slings.
Vessel Ballasting & DNV-GL / ABS Sea-Fastening Verification
As the 450-ton stack is set onto the vessel deck guide stumps, automated ballast pumps transfer water across wing tanks to keep vessel list under 1.5°. The sea-fastening plan engineered under DNV-GL rules requires diagonal tubular steel knee braces welded directly between the BOP transport skid corner castings and the vessel reinforced deck web frames, resisting 10-year storm wave roll accelerations.
