450-Ton 15,000-PSI Subsea BOP Stack Transport Manual
Engineering protocol for moving massive deepwater blowout preventer stacks: ram cavity depressurization, accumulator bank lockouts, perimeter frame drop-deck equalization, and Louisiana DOTD / Texas TxDOT superload compliance.
Subsea BOP Stack Transit Directives
Pressure Bleed-Down & Hydraulic Control System Lockout (API 16D)
Prior to release from the subsea yard test stump, all shear, blind, and pipe ram cavities must be completely depressurized and verified at 0 psig with calibrated test gauges. Accumulator bottles (holding 3,000 to 5,000 psi precharge nitrogen) must be isolated with mechanical lockout tags and hydraulic circuit return valves pinned open to prevent accidental ram activation under road vibration.
32-Axle Dual-Lane Perimeter Frame & Drop-Deck Equalization
Because of the BOP stack's towering 32-foot height and 450-ton concentrated weight, conventional flatbed multi-axle trailers cannot clear overhead highway structures. A dual-lane perimeter drop-deck trailer suspended between dual hydraulic steering bogies cradles the stack within 12 inches of ground clearance, spreading loads across 32 axles to satisfy bridge formula limits.
Dynamic Center-of-Gravity (CoG) & Cross-Camber Overturning Limits
With an elevated center of gravity (typically 11.5 feet above the trailer deck), route gradients and highway banking represent critical rollover risks. Convoys must maintain transit speed below 15 mph on curves and engage hydraulic transverse suspension stabilization on crowned two-lane Louisiana parish highways.
Quayside Roll-On/Roll-Off (Ro-Ro) Barge & Heavy Crane Load-Out Interface
Upon arrival at deepwater quayside terminals (such as Port Fourchon Slip C or Houston Galena Park), load-out onto heavy deck barges or offshore construction vessels (OCVs) is coordinated. Dual-crane tandem lifts or SPMT drive-on operations utilize steel spreader mats distributing dock ground pressure below 3,500 psf.
