01 Monolithic Cast-Steel Crosshead Structural Rigging & Schnabel Pinned Fixtures

Heavy hydraulic die-forging crossheads are cast from single-pour vacuum-degassed Cr-Ni-Mo alloy steel (such as ASTM A216 Grade WCB or 42CrMo4) and precision-machined to house massive 1,200 mm diameter forged tie-rod nuts and multi-cylinder hydraulic plungers.

To keep road travel height within legal utility wire limits, the crosshead is suspended directly between two heavy-duty Schnabel cantilever lifting arms. The schnabel arms engage directly into the crosshead's machined tie-rod boreholes using custom-forged 350 mm high-shear alloy pivot pins, eliminating the need for a continuous under-bed trailer chassis and saving over 38 inches of vertical height.

02 Dual-Lane Axle Load Spreading & Dynamic Bridge Bending Analysis

36-Axle Dual-File Platform Configuration

With a gross vehicle weight exceeding 980,000 lbs (445 metric tons) including tractor units, schnabel arms, and crosshead, axle loading must be strictly regulated to under 24,000 lbs per axle line. The transport utilizes a 36-axle dual-lane modular platform trailer (18 axles front / 18 axles rear) spanning over 260 feet total length.

  • Axle Spacing: 1.55 meters center-to-center
  • Platform Width: 16' 0" Dual-Lane configuration
  • Suspension Type: Hydraulic pendular axle with ±300mm travel

Bridge Crossing Protocol & Deflection Sensors

State highway bridges along the route are pre-evaluated using 3D finite element beam modeling (TxDOT / ODOT / PennDOT BRASS software). Superloads must cross steel girder bridges along the centerline at a constant creep speed of 3.0 mph with zero acceleration and no companion vehicular traffic on the span.

  • Bridge Crossing Speed: Strictly 3.0 to 5.0 mph
  • Braking Restriction: No brake application while on bridge deck
  • Live Girder Monitoring: Ultrasonic deflection telemetry
