Continuous Beam Mechanics
An 18-meter solid alloy column behaves as a multi-span continuous beam under distributed self-weight (q = ρ * A * g). Without intermediate support cradles, mid-span deflection causes optical laser alignment distortion and can crack threaded collar root fillets during transit.
Buttress Thread Protectors
The column ends feature precision-ground buttress or acme threads (up to 1,200 mm diameter) designed to withstand 50,000 tons of tensile hydraulic pre-stress. Heavy-duty cast polyurethane protectors with silicone grease blankets must be secured over all thread zones.
Lead / Bronze Soft Liners
Direct steel-on-steel contact between transporter bunks and forged columns is prohibited. All support cradles feature 25 mm thick vulcanized neoprene or lead/bronze conformable liners to prevent surface stress risers, galling, and road fretting marks.
