ASME SECTION VIII PRESSURE VESSEL & PNEUMATIC DISCHARGE

Cement Tanker Aeration & Blower Manual

Master Portland cement fluidization aerodynamics, PTO positive-displacement blower engagement, tank vs line pressure differential, and emergency line-plug clearouts.

01

Aeration Fluidization

Air pumped under porous canvas or silicone aeration pads suspends cement powder, reducing angle of repose so dry material flows liquid-like toward discharge hoppers.

02

PTO Blower Engagement

Rotary lobe blowers produce 450 to 950 CFM at 12 to 15 PSI. Engage PTO at idle, check oil levels, and gradually throttle tractor engine to 1,200 - 1,400 RPM operating sweet spot.

03

Tank / Line Pressure Ratio

Maintain tank pressure 2 to 4 PSI higher than line pressure. If line pressure spikes to equal tank pressure, product velocity drops and the discharge line risks complete blockage.

04

Line Plug Recovery

Immediately close product discharge valves. Direct all blower air into the bypass top-air and line-air lines to build velocity and push the compacted cement plug into the silo.

Standard Operating Procedure: Dry Cement Silo Blow-Off

A Pre-Hookup Inspection & Silo Verification

  • 1. Verify plant silo has sufficient headspace (> 28 tons capacity).
  • 2. Inspect 4" camlock discharge hose gaskets for cracking or grit.
  • 3. Connect static grounding wire to plant grounding rod.
  • 4. Open trailer top-air valve to begin pressurizing vessel.

B Active Unloading Pressure Monitoring

  • 5. Allow tank pressure to reach 12 - 14 PSI.
  • 6. Crack hopper product valve slowly until line gauge reaches 9 - 11 PSI.
  • 7. Listen for smooth material hiss through delivery hose.
  • 8. Blow clean air through line for 3 minutes post-empty to scour hose.
